The Magic of the ‘Telling Trees’ is brought to the forest by Scrumbly Numpkin. He awakes each Autumn as the very first leaf falls and takes seasonal fruit dropped by each host. Conkers, Maple Helicopters, Catkins, Acorns, Blackberries and Holly are just a selection of the magical ingredients that are clasped into his knobbly, conker-headed cane.
His cane is then tapped on the tree invoking an incredible world which is unlocked for the forest to experience. Each tree holds within a different story bursting with strange characters such as Grimstig the Mighty Oak, Teezle & Twink the Twilight Sprites, The Ferrevern Sylphs, Peapod & Fern and the snowmen-filled Ice Cream Mountains to name a few!
Here is a little snippet from the story and I welcome any feedback. I am currently looking for publication interest so I can work towards completing these stories.
The full Moon grinning, winked an eye
Surrounded by it’s inky sky
While far below the forest kept
A secret from us while we slept
Waiting in this crisp, new season
A gathering for a special reason
Listening for a telling sound
Between the knotty, rooted ground
Hands pointed up towards the trees
Branches sway between the breeze
Silence - then one might cheer
The first leaf falling of the year!
So gentle was it’s dance to ground
The forest watched without a sound
Now listening on the Autumn dawn
As Scrumbly Numpkin heaved a yawn
From deep within old Grimstig’s bow
The Storyteller had slept 'til now
He smiled and waved his magic cane
‘It’s Scrumbly Numpkin time again!’
The agile figure leapt and bound
Somersaulting to the ground
All creatures yelled with loud applause
While waving hooves and little claws...
